MSC Course Prerequisites

  • No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC; teachers will teach everything the students will need to know to benefit from the exercises.
  • MSC can by its nature be emotionally activating, so to help ensure safety, participants are asked to provide some background information when they register for the program.
  • Though MSC skills can be incredibly supportive during times of crisis, this course is a therapeutic skill-building workshop, but not therapy. We ask that participants who are in an intense period of emotional upheaval in their lives speak with the teacher before registering for the course to discuss whether this is the right time to take the course.
  • It is recommended that participants read one or both of following books before or during the program:
Self-Compassion-New-Jacket-199x300 Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself, by Kristin Neff
mindful path to self-compassion-germer The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion, by Christopher Germer

"Having compassion starts and ends with having compassion for all those unwanted parts of ourselves. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy."

Pema Chodron
